Tim Miller in Sex! Body! Self!
"Tim Miller sings that song of the self which interrogates, with explosive, exploding, subversive joy and freedom, the constitution and borderlines of selfhood. You think you don't need to hear such singing? You do! You must!” — Tony Kushner, author of Angels in America
A collaborative project between Goddard College and Madrona MindBody Institute offering you an enticing evening of edge... pay-what-you-will event - Sex!Body!Self!
Miller performs excerpts from his solo-works and speaks about the role performance plays in constellating identity. Known for his charged stage work which takes up the most challenging social texts of our time, Miller will share fierce and funny material as well as speak about how performance can be used to embolden communities and connect people with one another.
Tim Miller: Hailed for his humor and passion, Miller has perf ormed all over the world. He is author of SHIRTS & SKIN, BODY BLOWS and 1001 BEDS, and is well known as one of the so-called “NEA 4”. After his 1990 NEA Solo Performer Fellowship was overturned under political pressure from the Bush White House, Miller and three other artists successfully sued the federal government with the help of the ACLU for violation of First Amendment rights. Though the U.S. Supreme Court overturned part of Miller's case in 1998, determining that "standards of decency" are constitutional criterion for federal funding of the arts, Miller vows "to continue fighting for freedom of expression for fierce diverse voices."
