SINGING the BODY, MOVING the SOUL
Adventures on the Dancing Ground of Sound and Community
with Judith-Kate Friedman
Saturday, August 6th, 2011 - 2:30pm-5:00pm

Our souls love to sing, our bodies to move. In the beautiful setting of Madrona Mindbody Institute and surrounding Fort Worden we'll meet on the dancing ground of respect and wonder, sound and community. Together, we'll enter a Failure-Free Zone. We'll affirm our bodies as instruments and deepen our relationships to the gift of Voice. Whatever your level of voice and movement practice: WELCOME.
Singing the Body begins with warm-ups and playful, gentle connections within and without. We'll attune to breath and balance through exercises that build vocal skills, increase confidence, expand expressive vocabulary, tone color and vocal health. Freeing the singing dancer within, we’ll honor the energy of the season, explore learning curves and bends in the path until we find ourselves in a garden of song and improvisational delights. As we explore melody, rhythm, body-poem-soundscapes, sound-gesture stories, and spontaneous unisons and harmonies we’ll become a vocal community. We'll witness each others’ beauty and strength and celebrate the Source of Sound. The afternoon will close with personal reflection and integration. We’ll make touchstones in color and collage to celebrate the height of Summer and carry our intentions and creativity into Harvest time.
Please wear comfortable clothes, and if you like bring an item for the altar, a favorite hand percussion instrument or bell. Humor, curiosity, willingness to play, imagination and questions are all invited. Embodied song and dance are powerful medicine for times of transition in the annual cycle, and at this time in the world. “Singing the Body” playshops are offered seasonally.
A discount is available if you sign up for two or more in the series, paid in advance. Come be yourself! Stretch yourself!
