The Basic Pilates class is designed for a beginner but can also be suitable for those with some knowledge and experience in the basic tradition. Pilates highlights the importance of becoming familiar with the anatomy of movement originating in the core connection between the deep abdominal muscles and the rest of the body. Joseph Pilates called this area the Powerhouse of the body. Strengthening the muscles of the body is good but to consistently work only the muscles of the arms, legs, shoulders or chest without incorporating the core is less than effective. When we begin to move from a strong center tasks become less difficult- we find we have more energy--we become aware of a connection to the body on a deeper level. This class will start with basic fundamentals and work progressively into more difficult movements.
