5Rhythms® Series

with Peter Yanz and Sara Mains:

PAST EVENT

IT TAKES DISCIPLINE TO BECOME AFREE SPIRIT

A 5RHYTHMS DANCE SERIES

In this series we will use the map of the 5Rhythms to explore how discipline and commitment can reveal true freedom. This is the discipline to keep coming back to our own two feet, to our hearts, and opening the doors in your hips, chest, elbows, and soul to connect you to your deepest self.

5Rhythms dance is meditation~in~motion.  Showing up is its main requirement -- and it teaches us how.  We come as we are and we slowly, slowly find our flow.  There are no steps to remember.  We dance as the music moves us, following an inner thread that is always fresh and new.  If you can breathe, you can find healing, aliveness, and awareness here.  All ages, sizes, and abilities are deeply welcome.

Our bodies are treasure troves of information and inspiration if we would but listen.  5rhythms is a practice that shows us how to let our thoughts fade into the background so that this doorway to our deepest wisdom can open wide.

In 5rhythms, our primary tool is called the rhythm wave, a pattern of energy which we dance and see reflected in the world.  The five rhythms are:

FLOWING– the fluid, continuous, grounded glide of our own movements

STACCATO– the percussive, pulsing beat that shapes us a thousand different ways

CHAOS– the rhythm of letting go, releasing into the catalytic wildness of our dance that can never be planned or repeated

LYRICAL – the rhythm of trance, where the weight of self-consciousness dissolves, where we lighten up and disappear into our own uniqueness

STILLNESS– the quiet emptiness, where gentle movements rise and fall, start and end, in a field of silence

In each class, the music and gentle guidance will help you spontaneously experience the catalytic power and healing resonance of the rhythms in the wave.

The description of the rhythms above is used by permission from the website of the Moving Center School, which serves as the West Coast headquarters for the 5Rhythms.
